California Democratic Party Convention: San Jose

Some good links to liveblogs of the CDP convention - Todd

I know that the Texas action this weekend garnered more national attention that us Democrats "west of the west"...but I'd like to point your attention to some of the great live blogging happening at Calitics covering the California Democratic Party Convention.

(Todd Beeton's here, btw, and we had a great visit and wide-ranging and friendly discussion last night at Drinking Liberally here in San Jose.)

Here's some of the links you should check out from the CA convention...

David Dayen's running liveblog covering the convention has been an essential read.

Brian Leubitz's posts will keep you up to date on the drama of the convention, the Leno/Migden battle which is going to a floor fight.

Sweet Melissa has been adding her irreverent take on the SD-03 battle and it's been a must read.

Whether it's California Progress Report or Calitics authors like Dante and Lucas and Donald or the postings at California's Courage Campaign, you'll be able to follow the drama from the final morning of the convention, including the Bill Clinton and Kamala Harris (the San Francisco District Attorney and Obama surrogate) speeches.

The sign-toting delegates "Leno" "Migden" "Clinton" and "Obama" are now amping up the energy in the room...

I'll update the post as we go.

I've had so many great conversation with delegates from all over the state.

I'd particularly like to salute Dante and Dan for their hard work on the party platform.

Hat's off!

Thanks, k/o... (2.00 / 2)

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to San Jose to serve as a delegate this weekend. Thanks anyways for bringing the coverage here. At least I'll be able to know what my proxy will be voting on! ;-)

No way, no how, no McCain! :-)

Re: California Democratic Party Convention: San Jo (2.00 / 1)

thanks for the shout-out k/o! (I'm the aforementioned Dante).

You guys really should check out the party platform.  We have a lot of new, good stuff in there this year, including:

  • a commitment to marriage equality
  • a revised environmental plank, with global warming at the front and center
  • a whole new plank on internet, media and communications that affirms our commitment to net neutrality and bloggers' rights

I recommend reading it!

I'm surprised (none / 0)

marriage equality wasn't in the CA Dem platform before now.

Good work!

Thanks very exiting (none / 0)

Thanks for the great work Dante.

I also heard you got single payer into that. Hopefully whoever wins back California for the Dems in 2010 sticks to that and gets it into law.

Re: California Democratic Party Convention (none / 0)

Seeing you on the front page here is a welcome surprise.

How many delegates are attending?

Re: California Democratic Party Convention (2.00 / 1)

there's roughly 2100 delegates to the CDPC. (2081...I think)

Plus assorted bloggers and observers.  (Lots of young volunteers and California Young Democrats, too.)

Everything we talk about (none / 0)

here on MyDD.

Some Clinton/Obama, some meta-blogging stuff, some discussion of the delegate race and underlying issues.

But mostly we talked about the 50 State Strategy and races like Scott Kleeb's run for Senator of Nebraska.

Harris (2.00 / 1)

is basically weaving aspects of Obama's speeches into her own narrative.

It seems that a sea of Obama signs suddenly sprang up in the middle of the convention floor.

(Fwiw, interactions between Obama and Clinton supporters at the convention have been by and large polite and friendly.  Even the Obama and Clinton pods are able to pass each other with their sign-toters keeping things mellow...maybe that's just us Californians. ;)

I've had great conversations with supporters on all sides...on to SoS Debra Bowen.
